Light a Candle
Rueben Leonard Smith, age 68 of Van Buren, Ohio passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 5:31 p.m. at the Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. Rueben was born on April 14, 1952 in Sharonville, Ohio to the late William F. and Christine (Holbert) Smith. Rueben married Jennifer Dempsey in May of 2002. She survives along with his daughter, Lauren (Kyle) Kraiter of Portland, OR; his son, Elliot Smith of Findlay, OH; his step sons Bryan (Sarah) Davis of Haskins, OH and Joey Davis of Bowling Green, OH; a grandson, Vance Leonard Kraiter; and a step grandchild Braelynn Fletcher. Also surviving are two brothers, Ron (Debbie) Smith and Fred (Trina) Smith, all of Portland, OR; a sister, Marti (Dan) Huss of Cincinnati, OH; and a former wife, Marianna Smith of Findlay, OH. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Smith. Rueben was a graduate of Cincinnati Princeton High School, and graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH earning a Bachelor Degree in Production Engineering and Masters in Business Administration. He worked for years at the Budd Company in North Baltimore and Carey, Ohio, and later worked at Toledo Molding and Dye in Sycamore, Ohio. Rueben had a huge heart and referred to himself as a "professional volunteer". He loved to help people, especially those in his family as well as elderly friends. He helped with their computers, phones, technology, home and auto repairs, and photo slide shows, just to name a few of the many challenges he took on. He was the guy who could "fix everything", the One Man Shop. There will be an online memorial gathering held on Friday, May 29, 2020 starting at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
